I’m a British-Lebanese design researcher. My pronouns are she/her.
I work with communities and civil society organizations to understand, analyse, design and advocate for digital products and policies that are socially just.
Much of my work is at the intersection of digital rights and humanitarian response. I have experience across diverse topics including biometric identity, mobile money, automated messaging and chatbots, social media algorithms, digital risks, responsible data, and data protection.
The common thread is people’s lived experiences of digital technologies, particularly in the majority world; and actual or potential exclusion/inclusion and inequality exacerbated by digital technologies.
You can learn more and see some examples of my past work here.
I’ve consulted with organisations including CIVICUS, International Civil Society Centre, International Rescue Committee, GIZ, Oxfam, SMEX, the Engine Room, and Throneless Tech. I have lived and worked in Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq for the last decade, and grew up in the Gulf.
I am currently a PhD researcher in Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London. I have a masters degree from Georgetown’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, and an undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics.
